Film Companion Studios is a speciality division for long form storytelling where we create, develop and produce documentaries on all things film and entertainment. At Film Companion Studios, we tell stories of storytellers and artists responsible for making cinema an experience. Our first docu-feature called Modern Masters: S.S.Rajamouli is now streaming on Netflix.

Through our various endeavours, including impact-driven programmes to fund emerging filmmakers, we aim to take Film Companion’s legacy of discerning and nurturing love for cinema ahead.

OUR WORK

Modern Masters: S.S.Rajamouli

Indian Cinema has produced path-breaking work, with the films having garnered a cult status because of their makers - The Masters of Cinema.

Our documentary series Modern Masters, aims to capture journeys of such contemporary artists by giving the audiences an intimate look into what informs their art.

Our first special in the series features S.S. Rajamouli, one of the most prolific directors of modern Indian cinema, who stands at the forefront of taking Indian cinema to the world. The documentary traverses his formidable journey from Hyderabad to Hollywood, seamlessly woven through conversations with him, his family and his long-term collaborators.

Modern Masters: S.S. Rajamouli has been co-produced with Applause Entertainment and is now streaming on Netflix.

Take Ten

TakeTen is an initiative by Netflix’s Fund For Creative Equity and FC Studios, with the aim to find and fund filmmakers from diverse backgrounds across the country. TakeTen provided the finalists an opportunity to attend workshops by the best-in-the-industry, and make a fully-funded short film/pilot episode on the announced theme.

The selected filmmakers have gained recognition within the industry. Suyash Kamat went on to work on the Cannes Grand Prix winning film ‘All we Imagine as Light’ as a Director's Assistant and Second Unit Cinematographer. Sameeha Sabnis’ TakeTen film ‘Soul-Kadhi’ won the FilmFare award for Popular Short Film, with other TakeTen films being appreciated at other renowned film festivals.

O Womaniya!

O Womaniya! is a first-of-its-kind initiative by Prime Video and FC Studios aimed at starting conversations and enabling change in how women are represented and perceived in the Indian entertainment business.

With the support of Ormax Media and Sunitha Rangaswami, O Womaniya! report has employed various qualitative and quantitative metrics to hold up a mirror to the film and entertainment industry with the hope to reflect change.

In 2024, we aim to take a step towards tangible impact. O Womaniya! Shorts initiative has been created for women filmmakers, who would benefit from a short-film funding, creating opportunities for women in front and behind the camera.

Through the Lens

Through The Lens is a 4-part interview series, in collaboration with ARRI, that delves deep into the minds of wizards creating magic on screen through their impeccable visuals. A celebration of the art and craft of cinematography, the series features conversations with some of India's most talented and respected cinematographers.

The show features Sudeep Chatterjee, Anil Mehta, K.K. Senthil, Jay Oza and Shreya Dev Dube in conversation with Anupama Chopra, breaking down their philosophies of cinematography, their best frames and the art of visual storytelling.

The Walkers Project

Created in collaboration with Walkers&Co., ‘The Walkers Project’ is a 6-month transformative programme aimed at propelling two emerging Indian filmmakers into the spotlight. Offering the filmmakers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to attend and experience the Cannes Film Festival, the project gave them access to invaluable networking, and a funding to craft a short film based on the theme of ‘Stories of Progress’.

Guided by mentorship from Oscar winning producer Guneet Monga and other festival experts like Deepti DCunha and Anu Rangachar, the filmmakers will create films that catalyse real impact for those who embody the spirit of a Walker.

FC Classroom

A Screenwriting Masterclass course designed to train and enable aspiring filmmakers with a comprehensive study of screenplay writing. The masterclass breaks down the nitty-gritties of screenwriting across 12 modules.

Spearheaded and developed by Satyanshu Singh, a National Award-winning filmmaker, writer, and an accomplished professor of screenwriting, this course acts as a guiding light for upcoming, eager-to-learn writers, the world of storytelling.

Film Ink

Film Ink is an initiative by FC Studios and A Suitable Agency, supported by Google Arts & Culture. With the aim of creating a library of work that documents the journeys of luminaries of the Indian cinema and uncover various cultural moments — some well-known, some hidden from the public eye. Two writers who can represent the awe-inspiring phenomenon of Indian cinema through well-researched and balanced writing will be funded through our grant to write a book each, focusing on inspiring lives and prominent moments in Indian cinematic history.

The Screenwriters’ Fair in Leh, Ladakh, 2022

To extend support and build capacities for filmmakers of Ladakh, The Screenwriter’s Fair aimed to equip its attendee filmmakers with the right skill sets to venture out into the arena of screenwriting and distribution. Through this 5-day writing workshop the filmmakers were familiarised with building scripts appropriate for digital release and elaborate on how to position one’s script to reach and appeal to a wider audience, all while celebrating our Indian film culture.

The Screenwriters’ Fair 2022 was organized in collaboration with the Administration of Union Territory of Ladakh.

Immersed in the world of Hindi cinema since 1993, her influential contributions have graced renowned publications like The New York Times, Hindustan Times, The Los Angeles Times, and Vogue (India).

    In 2014, she founded Film Companion with the vision of establishing a trustworthy platform for entertainment journalism. Anupama Chopra is a trailblazer in her domain, standing as the sole creator, crafting robust content that resonates across, cementing her unparalleled presence in the industry.

    EXECUTIVE PRODUCER

    Megha is an executive producer with a strong sense of creatives. With over 13 years of experience in producing non-fiction content for TV and OTT platforms, her strength lies in seeing an idea through from its inception till its release. She produced Netflix UK’s ‘Caught Out’, an investigative documentary that looks into the match fixing scandal in cricket. She was also a producer on Amazon Prime Video’s follow documentary ‘AP Dillon: First of a Kind’, and led Coke Studio Bharat Season 2 as a project head.

    She is currently spearheading FC Studios with a focus on producing commercial documentary features and series that are edgy and inspiring.
